Depth. Precision. University Preparation.
The International A Levels represent one of the most academically respected pre-university qualifications in the world.
At AGI International School, A Levels are delivered within a structured, focused and ambitious environment designed to prepare students for competitive university programmes in Sweden and internationally.
Students normally study three A Levels, with the possibility of a fourth subject based on academic performance and timetable feasibility. Our model emphasises depth of understanding, analytical reasoning and intellectual independence.
Why A Levels?
A Levels are designed for students who want to study fewer subjects in greater depth. Rather than balancing a broad range of disciplines, students specialise early and focus intensely on areas aligned with their future ambitions.
This structure provides strong preparation for subject-specific university programmes such as engineering, medicine, economics or science. Through depth of study, students develop advanced analytical skills, academic writing and structured reasoning.
Unlike broader diploma programmes that emphasise balance across many subjects, A Levels prioritise mastery and intellectual focus. For students with clear interests and academic direction, this specialisation offers a powerful and internationally recognised pathway to competitive universities worldwide.

Depth instead of breadth
- This allows students to:
- Develop deep subject knowledge
- Build analytical and problem-solving skills
- Prepare for university-style study
- Focus early on their intended field of study

How the programme works
AS Level
Students begin with four subjects. This year allows students to explore and confirm their academic direction.
A Level
Students continue with three subjects to full A Level qualification. This structure provides both flexibility and focus.
A Levels compared to other systems
A Levels | Swedish Gymnasium | IB Diploma | |
|---|---|---|---|
Number of subjects | 3 | 16+ courses | 6 subjects |
Academic focus | Deep specialisation | Broad | Broad |
University preparation | Direct subject match | Indirect | Broad preparation |
Study style | Analytical, independent | Course-based | Mixed |
A Levels are ideal for students who already have a sense of direction for their future studies.
Our Three Academic Pathways
To provide clarity and focus, AGI International offers three structured pathways. Each pathway reflects a coherent academic direction while allowing flexibility within subject combinations.
Engineering & Technology
Designed for students aiming at engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics or technology-driven disciplines. This pathway emphasises analytical precision, quantitative reasoning and problem-solving.
Core-relevant subjects include:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Computer Science
- Chemistry (AS)
Students develop the intellectual rigour required for technical and scientific university programmes.

Medicine & Life Science
For students pursuing medicine, biomedical sciences, psychology or natural sciences. This pathway combines scientific depth with analytical discipline and structured academic preparation.
Core-relevant subjects include:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- Psychology (where offered)
Students are trained in evidence-based reasoning and scientific methodology.

Economics, Business & Social Sciences
Economics serves as the core subject within this pathway, forming a bridge between quantitative analysis and social understanding.
Students may follow one of two internal tracks:
- Quantitative Economics Track
- Economics
- Mathematics
- one additional subject
- Policy & Global Studies Track
- Economics
- two complementary subjects such as Politics or Geography
This structure allows both analytical depth and broader societal engagement.

Speech, Leadership and Intellectual Confidence
At AGI, A Levels are not only about subject mastery. Students are trained to articulate ideas clearly and confidently.
Speech and rhetoric are integrated into classroom practice. Students regularly present, debate and defend arguments. This continuous training develops intellectual confidence and leadership capacity, essential qualities for university and beyond.
Study Skills and Structured Support
A Levels demand independence, and we actively prepare students to meet that expectation. From the outset, students are trained in academic writing, time management, revision strategies and effective examination technique. Structured note-taking and disciplined study habits are developed gradually and reinforced throughout the programme.
At the same time, independence does not mean isolation. Teachers work closely with students throughout the school day and remain accessible for guidance and clarification. Scheduled study sessions each week provide additional time for focused academic support, consolidation and mentoring.
Our Student Support Team is available on a weekly basis, ensuring that academic, emotional and developmental needs are addressed proactively. Students are seen, followed closely and supported consistently.
We are present to guide, challenge and support our students so that they can reach their full potential and enter university prepared, confident and capable.
Assessment and examinations
- Students are assessed through:
- Continuous internal assessment
- Mock examinations
- Final external Cambridge examinations

University Pathways
A Levels open doors to competitive university programmes worldwide.
- Our students are prepared for:
- European and international universities
- UK institutions
- Swedish universities
Swedish universities
For students intending to apply to Swedish universities, additional requirements may apply, including Swedish language qualifications (equivalent to Swedish 3 / Svenska som andraspråk 3) and specific subject prerequisites depending on the chosen programme.
We provide academic guidance to ensure that subject combinations and complementary qualifications align with each student’s intended university pathway.
Expectations and Culture
The A Level environment at AGI is structured, calm and academically ambitious. Students are expected to maintain strong attendance, meet deadlines and contribute actively in discussions. These expectations are grounded in responsibility and mutual respect, forming a culture where focus and discipline are the norm rather than the exception.
At AGI, attitude truly matters. There is a reason the expression “attitude is everything” endures. A positive and resilient mindset, shaped within a framework of strong shared values, has a lasting impact on future success. High expectations are paired with consistent support, because we believe that challenge within clear boundaries builds both confidence and character — preparing students not only for university, but for life beyond it.
Who Should Choose A Levels?
A Levels are particularly well suited for students who are academically motivated and ready to take ownership of their intellectual development. The programme is designed for those who value depth over breadth and who want the freedom to focus on subjects that genuinely align with their strengths, interests and future ambitions.
One of the great advantages of A Levels is the opportunity to study fewer subjects in greater depth. Instead of dividing attention across many disciplines, students immerse themselves in carefully chosen areas and develop advanced analytical thinking, academic writing and subject mastery. This focused preparation provides a powerful foundation for university studies, especially for students who aim to enter competitive and subject-specific programmes. At AGI, A Levels are designed for students who want to prepare seriously for higher education while growing both intellectually and personally.
How universities use A Levels
Universities do not look at the number of subjects studied. They look at which subjects a student has taken.
University field | Required A Levels |
|---|---|
Engineering / Technology | Mathematics + Physics |
Computer Science / AI | Mathematics + Computer Science or Physics |
Medicine | Chemistry + Biology |
Economics / Finance | Mathematics |
Business / Management | Mathematics + Economics |
