Depth. Precision. University Preparation.
Cambridge International AS & A Levels are among the most academically respected pre-university qualifications in the world.
At AG International, AS & A Levels are delivered within a structured, focused and ambitious environment designed to prepare students for competitive university programmes in Sweden and internationally. AS Level typically represents one year of study and can be taken as a qualification in its own right. In many subjects, it can also form the first stage of a full A Level, allowing students to continue and develop their knowledge in greater depth.
Students normally continue with three subjects towards full A Level, with the possibility of a fourth subject based on academic performance and timetable feasibility. Our model emphasises depth of understanding, analytical reasoning and intellectual independence. A Levels open doors to competitive university programmes worldwide.
WHY AS & A LEVELS?
Cambridge International AS & A Levels give students the opportunity to shape their studies around their strengths, interests and future ambitions. At AS Level, students can study a broader selection of subjects before choosing which ones to continue at A Level.
As students progress to A Level, the focus becomes more specialised. By continuing with fewer subjects, students have the opportunity to explore them in greater depth and develop advanced subject knowledge, analytical thinking and independent study skills.
This progression allows students to refine their academic direction while preparing for university studies. Subject choices can be tailored towards future fields such as engineering, medicine, economics, business or the social sciences.

Depth instead of breadth
Unlike many education systems where students study a large number of subjects, A Levels focus on three strong academic subjects.
- This allows students to:
- Develop deep subject knowledge
- Build analytical and problem-solving skills
- Prepare for university-style study
- Focus early on their intended field of study
How the programme works
AS Level
Students begin with four subjects at AS Level, allowing them to explore their academic strengths and interests before deciding which subjects to continue in greater depth.
A Level
Students typically continue with three subjects towards the full A Level qualification, building on their AS studies with greater depth, specialisation and academic challenge.
A Levels compared to other systems
A Levels | IB Diploma | |
|---|---|---|
Number of subjects | 3 | 6 subjects |
Academic focus | Deep specialisation | Broad |
University preparation | Direct subject match | Broad preparation |
Study style | Analytical, independent | Mixed |
A Levels are ideal for students who already have a sense of direction for their future studies.
EXAMPLE A LEVEL PATHWAYS
To make subject choices clearer, we have created three example A Level pathways that reflect common Swedish upper secondary programmes. The subject combinations are designed to meet Swedish university entry requirements and have been reviewed in relation to UHR’s requirements.
Engineering & Technology
Designed for students aiming at engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics or technology-driven disciplines. This pathway emphasises analytical precision, quantitative reasoning and problem-solving.
Core-relevant subjects include:
- Mathematics
- Physics
- Computer Science
- Chemistry (AS)
Students develop the intellectual rigour required for technical and scientific university programmes.

Medicine & Life Science
For students pursuing medicine, biomedical sciences, psychology or natural sciences. This pathway combines scientific depth with analytical discipline and structured academic preparation.
Core-relevant subjects include:
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Mathematics
- Psychology (where offered)
Students are trained in evidence-based reasoning and scientific methodology.

Business & Social Sciences
Economics serves as the core subject within this pathway, forming a bridge between quantitative analysis and social understanding.
Students may follow one of two internal tracks:
- Quantitative Economics Track
- Economics
- Mathematics
- one additional subject
- Policy & Global Studies Track
- Economics
- two complementary subjects such as Politics or Geography
This structure allows both analytical depth and broader societal engagement.

Study Skills and Structured Support
A Levels demand independence, and we actively prepare students to meet that expectation. From the outset, students are trained in academic writing, time management, revision strategies and effective examination technique. Structured note-taking and disciplined study habits are developed gradually and reinforced throughout the programme.
At the same time, independence does not mean isolation. Teachers work closely with students throughout the school day and remain accessible for guidance and clarification. Scheduled study sessions each week provide additional time for focused academic support, consolidation and mentoring.
Our Student Support Team is available on a weekly basis, ensuring that academic, emotional and developmental needs are addressed proactively. Students are seen, followed closely and supported consistently.
We are present to guide, challenge and support our students so that they can reach their full potential and enter university prepared, confident and capable.
Assessment and examinations
- Students are assessed through:
- Continuous internal assessment
- Mock examinations
- Final external Cambridge examinations

Expectations and Culture
The AS & A Level environment at AG International is structured, focused and academically ambitious. Students are expected to take responsibility for their studies, maintain strong attendance, meet deadlines and contribute actively in class. Clear expectations create an environment where students can focus, develop independence and make steady academic progress.
At the same time, high expectations are matched with consistent support. Teachers work closely with students, providing guidance and encouraging them to take increasing ownership of their learning. Our aim is to create a culture where ambition, curiosity and resilience go hand in hand with mutual respect – preparing students for the independence expected at university.
Who Should Choose A Levels?
AS & A Levels are well suited to students who enjoy academic challenge and want greater influence over the direction of their studies. The flexible subject structure allows students to focus on areas that match their strengths, interests and future ambitions rather than following a broad, fixed combination of subjects.
It is a strong option for students who are ready to work independently, engage deeply with their chosen subjects and gradually take greater responsibility for their learning. For students with an idea of what they may want to study at university, subject choices can also be shaped around future entry requirements while keeping individual interests at the centre.
